Doubling down as a creative
Calling yourself an artist with no formal training and a career in an entirely different field feels a bit like calling chalk cheese but for me, it’s not actually the wildest shift I have been privy to – whilst working as an environmental vacation student at a gold mine, I took a ride as a passenger in a 140 tonne mining truck and could scarcely believe my ears when the driver told me that she had recently relocated from inner Melbourne where she had a small floristry business! Evidently big changes are certainly possible, and I am determined to make it so!
I have come to believe that I have previously undervalued and underestimated my creative side and I do not wish to repeat the mistake. Never one to do something half-heartedly (or leave something half finished or arrive late), I have commenced studying an online Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration through the Billy Blue College of Design within Torrens University. As was my hope, the course is helping me to understand my artistic practise and inspiring me all the more. I feel as though my study is driving improvements in my painting and that my experience as an art maker is advantageous in my study - as though my favourite things to do have somehow become the things I actually do! Now to turn it into a flourishing business…watch this space!
