Australian Pelican Collection

I am currently in the process of completing a series of assignments focused on producing a set of three complementary textile patterns deriving from Australian flora or fauna and comprising of just two different colours.

I’ve chosen an Australian Pelican or Pelecanus inconspicillatus. I think this has to be about the most apt scientific name I’ve ever come across - these giant birds with their giant bills and giant feet are pretty in your face. So my challenge became to set about defying this scientific name and making them somewhat incognito in my designs. What fun it has been so far. The next step is refining my colour palette - more on that another day - if I know me (and I think that I do), I will probably do 90% of the work in the last 5% of time available before its due (again)!
